All students deserve the opportunity to get lost in a good book. Half the battle my reluctant readers face is choosing a book that fits their reading level, is engaging, and peaks their interest. With the help of these books, my goal as a reading teacher is to inspire my students to develop a love for reading. Once that is developed, reading levels will soar. These books offer many teaching opportunities such as: fluency conferences, check and connect conferences, and mini-lessons based on independent reading books, listening stations that coincide with the book, and book groups. Unfortunately, assessment and data has taken over in the classroom, these books will afford my students the opportunity to learn by practice. We all know that practice makes perfect! Encouraging students to read young adult fiction, will open their eyes to realistic events they may be faced with. With your help, we can help these students reading levels grow to prepare them to be successful in high school, college, and ultimately become citizens who make a difference. As a teacher, what else can we ask for than students who become well rounded and educated individuals? Thank you for taking the time to read about my incredible students.
