Every brand new classroom needs an assortment of materials to get started on the right foot. These new materials will support my students in understanding language and the flow of the day (with many printed visuals), and create calming and safe spaces for the children learn in and enjoy. Some children in my classroom are unable to control their bodies, and many of these new items would help support their receptive understanding and physical, sensory, and emotional needs to allow them to learn and grow to their highest potentials. The wobble chairs allow students to move as they work to attend during circle and table time tasks. For those overwhelming moments, the cozy cube would provide a safe space to go to and calm down, and the sensory toys (tangles, wind-up, squeeze toys, and hide and seek ball) and sensory table would help them regulate their bodies. Visuals are also a key component of a special education environment, and the HP LaserJet Pro printer and extra ink will allow me to make visuals to use all around the room to support the children with the daily routine, visual cues for speech production, and support challenging transitions. In addition, clear storage bins would help me organize the space and provide a clean and less visually overstimulating environment. Although many of the children in my class do not have the words to say it, these materials would undoubtedly support their early learning in my classroom.
