My students are bright and intelligent. They are sweet and loving. They are creative and perceptive. They love to dance, run, read, and play on the computer. The students crave sensory input, but can also be overwhelmed by it. My students have Autism. I teach in a small classroom for students with Autism in an elementary school located in a small city with limited resources. My students range in age, from kindergarten to third grade, and range in ability levels. They work incredibly hard every day, to make progress in their academic work, but also in their daily living and social goals. At times, our classroom is a busy place, where students are working on all different things, and many of my students can become overwhelmed by all that is going on.
