My students have below grade level skills in mathematics. On average they are 3 years or more behind when I work with them and have not mastered the standards necessary for previous grade levels, which makes their current grade level objectives difficult to reach. They are eager to learn, but have difficulty retaining what they have learned and the application of those skills. My school is located in an urban area which is very high poverty. We try hard to give the students all that they need to succeed in school, but due to budgets we are not always able to do this as successfully as we would like.
