I would like to teach a multimodal unit on Tennessee William's A Streetcar Named Desire to my American Literature students as a part of the unit on Modernism. I feel that a class set of the play, along with the infamous, Marlon Brando as Stanley will serve as great inspiration for this period of literature. The themes of this story are engaging and timeless: romance, mental health, the American Dream, the struggle for power and the need for love. Students deserve to read literature that speaks to modern issues, and I feel that this text, along with the film will be a great fit. Not many teachers at my school have taught this text before, but I feel that my students will find it engaging and powerful. The characters and plot will pull them in and this classic American play will be sure to please!
