I have the privilege of teaching English to our newest Americans, the brave teenagers who crossed a desert to arrive in our classrooms beginning last year. We call them 'unaccompanied minors' because they travelled hundreds, sometimes thousands of miles without parents in order to seek refuge in the United States. Although their stories will break your heart, their aspirations fill mine everyday. I have Rosetta Stone, an excellent online program to help them learn English, but accessing it is a constant challenge. Managing the daily storage, setup, charging, and security of the computer cart and lap tops steals precious instructional time. Twenty desk top computers (refurbished, not fancy or brand new in good working order with microphone/headset inputs) would provide more time on task and transform a frustrating experience to one we would all look forward to each day. Thank you.
