Our school used to be a typical suburban school in Las Vegas, but the demographics are changing rapidly. We are much more diverse than ever before. Many of our houses are rentals now, and we see students coming in and out throughout the year. I have personally had one student leave and come back in a six week period. Our school is working to address the needs these changes have brought. Our instruction and classroom needs to encompass nurturing as well as academics. Reading aloud is a very nurturing and close experience shared by a teacher and her students. My students love that time we share.
