My students are eager artists, designers, and architects from diverse backgrounds. When I enter their classrooms, their faces light up. Not just because they enjoy class with me, but because they have been waiting all week to make art. We all work together to excite and inspire the students at our school to succeed. Teachers and administrators celebrate students' achievements in the arts as well as their academic successes. They help put on our school's annual art show, and come out to see students' artworks at local exhibitions. My goal as their art teacher is to help my students discover that they can be the creators, the makers, and the shapers of the world--that they can transform whatever they touch into something meaningful and beautiful. I am so grateful that I get to share in this experience with over 400 students at my school.
