I teach in an urban school district. I have 24 students, 13 girls and 11 boys, all with different learning styles and abilities. They enjoy cooperative learning and are eager to try new things. I can think of one student in particular that I am still trying to turn onto reading. She has a difficult time committing to a book. I have a classroom library where students are allowed to borrow books. My rule is that if you pick out a book you should stick with it until the end. If you choose to not finish the book, then you are responsible for filling out an "abandon a book" form to explain why you are not finishing it. I feel this prevents students from just picking a new book everyday. I have one student who does not follow the rule of the library. Every day, she is trading books in the library. I think it's great that she is experiencing books, but the fact that she can't stick with a book tells me she hasn't found her love for reading.
