In any subject, students need to work on activities outside of the classroom to master and retain information. Speech is no different. However, with the rigor of academics, speech homework often takes a back burner. With 5 Minute Speech, each student will have a notebook of activities that will tie their speech goals to their academic goals and that can be done anywhere with any adult's help. Academic areas like spelling, vocabulary, phonology, reading comprehension and grammar can all be added on an individual basis and tied to the child's speech error sounds or language needs. Each student will receive a notebook. It will contain their speech goals and objectives. The notebook will be divided into sections to address each goal. Each section will tie in to the student's individual curriculum, by tying their goal to spelling words, sight words, and vocabulary words, from all subjects in the curriculum. Fun activities to incorporate reading and grammar will also be included. Studies show that a child makes more progress with short repeated practice spread out over time. Teachers, classroom assistants and parents will be able to address a number of student directed goals, in 5 minutes time, throughout the school day, as well as at home.
