I teach a group of students that come from many different backgrounds, but generally are from very low income, single parent/guardian households. Over ninety percent of my students come from low income homes. Most of the families enrolled in our school are doing their best, but sometimes that means the students are at daycare or another family members home until after 10PM. As second graders, my students typically have an increased need for help at home. Many of them have brothers and sisters that help take care of them but don’t get to spend much time with parents or guardians. School is also a safe haven for many of my students and I want it to be as enjoyable as possible for them.
