The materials I have chosen include seating choices, clipboards and ry erase boards to use with a flexible seating option. As adults, we find spaces and materials that make us comfortable and engaged and students deserve that same choice! Students in First Grade deserve to come to a classroom that is warm, inviting and full of choices! By offering flexible seating choices I am giving my students the power to choose where they are most comfortable learning. The seats can be moved into groups or placed individually based on the needs of the students and activities. Using dry erase boards or clipboard allows for a solid surface for writing without a standard table. All of the items involve compromise and navigating through social interactions. What happens when a seat I wanted is being used? That is when negotiation, making deals or finding an alternative is practiced. Life skills at its finest. Children actively involved in learning and making choices in the environment leads to more engagement and makes the classroom a comfortable place to be.
