Animals have a way of calming and relaxing students, especially my two school guinea pigs, Oreo and Mini. Many students will come into my office to say hello to them and can have a peaceful moment to take a break. Teachers have been letting their students come visit as a behavior incentive or reward, and I sometimes bring them along for my classroom guidance lessons. Social-emotional learning (SEL) is of the utmost importance for students during these times of returning to school from COVID-19 closures. Animals are great ways for children to allow themselves to check in with themselves and practice mindfulness. Please help us care for these little guinea pigs that bring so much joy and comfort to our students!
