As a Ph.D. student, I am focused on art integration and language development. Media art and visual arts, like video making are not only incredibly engaging, it is also an incentive for English language learners to use English. By teaching students how to successfully shoot videos, edit, and produce, they are learning tools that can help them in their own life but also be able to express themselves. Students will be able to document what matters most to them in this world and give them skills to share it on their own social media platforms, with the school, and for special projects. The cameras and backdrop can be set up in our own classroom where they can film themselves and work together to express their thoughts on high-engaging issues. With a proper camera, lighting, and backdrops, students will be able to create high-quality content that they will be proud of. Using arts for both language use and art therapy allows students to create their own power and helps them work through their own trauma and emotions.
