We know that no two students are alike, and it can be difficult to meet everyone's needs at once. Some students need to talk through their ideas aloud, and some students need a quieter environment to do their best thinking. I have students that use voice to text to get their ideas out, and students who are distracted by talking. It's hard to find a balance or to choose which student gets exactly what they need. With the simple addition of high-quality earplugs, I won't have to choose between letting students read aloud to me or creating a completely silent classroom to help those who need to focus. These will be utilized during independent work time when students need to use speech to text functions. They will also be utilized so I can read one on one or in small groups with students while giving others the quiet environment they need to focus on their own books. Finally, it is a tool to help students practice and discover what they can do to help themselves focus not only now, but in future years.
