I am currently a special education teacher on the south side of Chicago. I work in a school in a primarily low income school. Many students are new language learners. My students have a range of strengths and weaknesses. Some of my students have moderate cognitive disabilities and the focus is on functional academics. Other students have much more mild disabilities and merely need extra time and support to in order to achieve the general education curriculum. We have as much fun as we can here, as my philosophy is to keep students moving, because you aren't going to teach kids effectively if they are bored. My students are great. My students can do a lot, they just need a nudge, solid teaching, and success to build their confidence.
