Welcome to Mrs. Rowe's 5th grade class. My students are amazing, engaged, and eager to learn everyday. My school serves students in a high impact area with a 98% free and reduced lunch population. My students come to class daily ready to learn, excited about exploring new ideas and cultures through reading. Though most of my students are not yet at grade level in reading or writing, they are showing growth primarily due to their own perseverance and engagement in our daily read alouds. Much of the literacy instruction in class includes culturally diverse fiction containing real world themes and rich language that can be analyzed at a deeper level with teacher guidance. My students have also struggled with identifying theme, as well as writing using descriptive language. Using these novels also serves to assist students in beginning to brainstorm in order to plan, edit, and write narratives.
