Cooper Dual Language Academy is an elementary school serving nearly 600 students in grades PreK through 5th grade in the Pilsen neighborhood. Cooper scholars are excited to learn about new technologies and access online resources, like Khan Academy. However, our students’ primary access to technology is at school. Each day, we hear eager students ask, “Whose turn is it to go on Khan?”. Our English Learners and Diverse Learners interest and engagement increases when utilizing technology, where they are able to access “just right” texts or skills on their own level through Khan Academy. Our current device to student ratio is 1:2, through a combination of sharing chromebooks across a grade level and utilizing a school-wide computer lab. Students are able to access technology every other day. We know this is not frequent enough to truly prepare them to be college and career ready, so they are successful in a global economy.
