Many of my students are from broken families and broken households. They attend an inner city school and 100% of students obtain meals at no charge. Students seem to have little willpower to complete school related tasks such as reading. Most of them convey that they do not like school or school related activities. What empowers them to complete academic tasks is when things are different (out of the normal) and exciting.
