Our school year is quickly coming to a close, which means all work is finished and has been sent home. My students had a wonderful time making art this year, and were so excited to use new materials! They were so excited in fact, that I did need to limit the number of pieces they could use on their project so that each class had enough to choose from, and so I could even save a little bit to be used in the future.\r\nI was successfully able to use the materials with my Kindergarten, 2nd grade, EC (grades 3-4) students, and even a few in art club (grade 3-5). My other grade levels unfortunately did not complete their other projects in time to begin a new one before the school year ends, which is why a small portion of the materials have been saved for later.\r\nMy 2nd graders and EC students created relief sculptures of flower bouquets as a gift for Mother's day. We cut out frames and vases from the foam sheets, used the \"felt and foam\" glue to attach pieces together, the flower stickers created the bouquet, and the letters and other shapes were used to decorate the frames. If time allowed (not every class), students could sew the edges of their frame as extra decoration and texture. We also attached string at the top to add beads and a way to display their beautiful artwork. The students were quite proud of their work, and were talking about how their mom would react when they gifted it to her.\r\nMy Kindergarten students were able to use the string to create paper mobiles. They had created multiple abstract paintings over the course of 4 classes. We used these to cut out a variety of shapes which were attached to the string after adding beads. They were all so excited and so proud of their work on this project, telling me where they would hang it up when they brought it home.\r\nArt club was designed as more of a free choice based art room, where multiple activities and materials were set out for students to select. One option given was sewing/embroidery practice. They would select a foam sheet, needle, and thread. I had a tutorial book about embroidery stitches that they could practice from. This was a more challenging activity, but the students enjoyed it as it was something new to try and that we had never done in art class before.\r\n\r\nI can't wait to explore more options/opportunities with these materials!","fullyFundedDate":1738778027974,"projectUrl":"project/sculpture-and-sewing-in-art-oh-my/9058993/","projectTitle":"Sculpture and Sewing in Art, Oh My!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ivey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9665067_orig.jpg?crop=1325,1325,x217,y99&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736974077687","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/korn-ivey"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1374","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":696,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":51,"percentWhite":17,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":40.7,"schoolId":1374,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bill Hefner Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bill Hefner Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/cumberland-county-schools/bill-hefner-elementary-school/1374"}
