Hello! I teach at a public school in an urban area located in Chicago. I teach in a moderate disabled classroom, with 13 students. We are an active bunch! These students range from grade levels Kindergarten - 3rd grade, they are behaviorally/academically functioning at the pre-k or kindergarten level. These students have disabilities including autism, fragile X syndrome, down syndrome, and Aspergers. The students are all performing at differentiated academic levels. My students benefit from routines and structure in the classroom! They also benefit from having designated and blocked off areas in the classroom to avoid disruptions and imitating students behaviors. We use picture schedules and sign language to communicate in our classroom. Our students have unique needs that need specialized instruction and modifications/accommodations.
