If my project, Second Graders iLearning, gets funded, my students will utilize iPads in my classroom in a variety of ways on a daily basis. I will accomplish this by setting up an area of my room to be the iLearning Center. Students will be grouped according to their DIBELS achievement level in literacy and math. These groups will rotate to the iLearning Center and other centers each day to reinforce focus skills/standards. The iLearning Center will be where students utilize apps to reinforce skills in comprehension, phonics, grammar, and math, Google Classroom and other Google apps to research and write independently and collectively, and to take Accelerated Reader quizzes after reading books on their reading level. One example of ilearning includes math fact fluency practice with Xtramath. This program has students practicing math facts at their level until they master each fact. Mastery is being able to correctly answer the fact in 3 seconds. Skill reinforcement and extension can also be achieved with apps such as Phonics Vowels, Reading Recs, Spelling City, Fry Words, Epic, and 2nd Grade Learning Games. Google Classroom can be used for digital assignments, independent and collective writing, and projects. Lastly, with access to Accelerated Reader, students will be able to take more quizzes and track progress toward goals more frequently.
