The use of a variety of games in our special education classroom will promote social and emotional development for all our students. Games are great tools for teaching important social skills such as collaboration, compromise and respect. Game base learning allows kids to develop strong cognitive, social and physical skills simultaneously. This learning enhances essential life skills like critical thinking skills, creativity, good sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork. As a special education teacher, my ultimate teaching goal is to help my students reach specific learning objectives. Games are a great way to practice so many skills. I love games that target social skills, academic skills, and fine motor skills. Many of of my students have social goals and will improve and develop social understanding skills. Some examples would be; * student will raise hand * will engage in appropriate turn-taking skills by attending to peer's turn and waiting for own turn * will work cooperatively with peers in small groups * will interact with peers in an appropriate manner through maintaining personal space and a respectful voice * will improve conversation * will resolve conflicts without physical contact or abrasive language
