Our students come predominantly from Puerto Rico and Mexico. They are from households that are below, if not far below, the poverty level. The families and students have little in the way of material possessions. The students are enthusiastic about learning. They try their best and work hard to decrease the gap between the students' current working level and their grade-level work. Our school is one of 3 bilingual schools within our district. Our administration is supportive and does the best they can with what they are given. Our parents and families try to be involved in the students' educational experience. But asking them to miss a day of work and therefore a day of pay to attend a parent teacher conference, PTA meeting, or assembly becomes problematic for most. Our students and their families work hard for what they have and do their best to support the students at home.
