We leaened about the history of the ancient Japanese art form of Suminagashi and how it was almost lost. The Suminagashi Marbled Paper kits that you supplied our classroom with had everything! We even incorporated math into art as we measured and mixed materials to create the suspension liquid to hold the colored dyes.\r\nEach time a student pulled a new marbled paper there was excitement and engagement. Students have their own devices to access curriculum and programs to help them become more independent learners. With these devices, they use headphones to assist in focusing. The donation you have so graciously given allowed us to provide enough headphones for each student in our Dual Language classrooms. Being able to listen to programs we use, such as Lexia and MyOn, allows our students to block out extraneous noises and really hone in on the important information.\r\n\r\nAlong with headphones to help our students focus and improve their learning environments, donations provided for a Spanish-English dictionary. This helps our ELL students find the words they need to describe different topics. The dictionary provides photos and illustrations which help our visual learners. Student faces light up with excitementat the arrival of such new and novel materials. \r\nThe artifical pieces were so realistic and of good quality students were able to identify lumps, bumps and imperfections just as they would see on the real thing. We first used the plastic pieces to hone in on skills of observation which are essential to every artist.\r\nNext students arranged the fruits into visually intresting still life displays in the center of the tables. Then students focused on composing still life drawings based on the tangible 3D objects before them, exploring overlap and composition. \r\nThe end results were great and students really enjoyed drawing from life as opposed to photo references. Students are currently studying the circle and radial symmetry across art history and cultures. For this project our focus was the mandala. Students used the dotting tools to apply the paint in a methodical and mindful way. The completed designs were amazing and student engagement was at an all time high! \r\nWhen the students first saw the dotting tools they were very curious about how we would paint without brushes.
