In order to become lifelong readers, students must be exposed to books they love in the middle grades. In my class, students learn to bring books with them wherever they go: grandma's house, car rides, and waiting rooms. We brainstorm where we see adults reading in the "wild." Those adults are reading for fun, not for an assignment. In my class, reading should never feel like an assignment. To make that a possibility, I have to make sure the books available to my students are engaging, relevant, and fun. This project will purchase class sets of novels that will help create a collaborative reading community. When students have common reading experiences, they are excited to read and talk to their peers about their reading. Thank you for helping me encourage the next generation of readers!
