The reading of this book will help my students understand that life after prison is no walk in the park. Although physically free, those who serve considerable time for felony convictions find themselves in a quandary, as it is difficult for them to "move forward from their previous convictions and time served in prison." What do they do when they have paid their debt to society, now all they want to do is put it behind them and make something of their life? Unfortunately, roadblocks are all around them. They can't vote. Employers won't hire them, so they can't take care of their basic needs. Family members are leery of letting them in their life. Again, what are they to do when "the system" keeps their feet shackled by reminding of their past?
