For generations it was an accepted fact that our middle school would fail. Lack of funds and opportunity became the excuse for that failure. Students were accustomed to being written off, and little parent involvement perpetuated the cycle. Thankfully, in the past three years, an infusion of effective and energetic administrators and teachers has turned the tides! Unfortunately, holding students to a higher standard and accepting no excuses is difficult to do in a poverty-stricken community. These students are grateful for every little thing awarded to them; it's almost heartbreaking to see how much they appreciate the little things. Failure is no longer an option, and my students are up to the challenge; they just need the tools to show the world that they can and will be successful!
