I teach in a high poverty school. Many of these kids do not have access to technology or the Internet in their homes. They are, however, being taught basic computer and keyboarding skills in our computer lab once a week for 45 minutes. They really look forward to this time because they absolutely love to "play" the educational games that are available. They get so excited when it is their turn to be on one of the two computers in my room. They like to learn and have such enthusiasm even though technology is so limited. We live in a rural community where quality jobs are scarce. Lots of these families work hard just to provide the essentials for their children, and unfortunately this does not always leave extra money to provide technology. These kids need every possible advantage that can be offered in order to be successful and break out of their cycle.
