Every student has the right to a clean, safe INCLUSIVE learning environment. All of the items on my list have been carefully thought out to maximize the organization and flow of our classroom. The large area rug will be used for our morning meetings,mini lessons and a meeting place for small group work. The rug is colorful and has square seating for each student. Having a visual location to sit really helps students feel welcomed. Students with disabilities and sensory integration will have clear body boundaries, which gives students the space to stay focused and be part of academic discussions. I am excited to build our classroom library with relevant, culturally diverse books. The book shelves and book bins I have selected will help to organize our books into leveled categories as well as genres. Students will be able to use our library area as a place to build their love of reading, help with researching and make connections to topics in the curriculum. The media cart will help house our projector and document camera so that students can be engaged with technology and present their ideas and skills learned,using tech- enhanced tools. Each week, I assign new table captains that are responsible for table materials. The table caddies will help students have the materials they need on hand. They will also help students stay organized and take ownership of their classroom materials. When a classroom environment is well thought out students are able to feel safe and take more academic risks. I am eager to see all students succeed at their skill level and I look forward to sharing with you the growth students are able to make and how they are using these items.
