Our students come from many diverse families--most of whom are struggling. We have students that are Hispanic, African American, Pacific Islander, Native American, and mixed races. I teach at a Title l school, and most students receive free breakfast and lunch at our school. Poverty is an issue. We provide weekend meals, backpacks, adult education, and often shoes and clothing to as many families as possible. For many students, our school is the only safe and happy place in their lives. We work very hard to help these students feel safe, loved, and most of all to help them achieve academic and personal success in their lives, as well as members of their families. We just started being a "Leader in Me" school, and through this process/way of living, teaching, learning and being, we hope to enhance each others' lives for the better.
