My students are highly motivated and eager to learn a new language. For many of my students, learning French or Spanish is their third language. My classes are heterogeneous, so I have students who struggle to get a passing grade and those who soar with A+++ without even trying. Our school is in a good district, however, the students that feed into our school come from the most economically challenged families in the area. Our school is a comprehensive high school very much behind the times in terms of technology. It was built 40 years ago and it shows in the classrooms. There are many schools in much less affluent neighboring areas with more technology and 1:1 devices for their students. We don't have 1:1 devices! We have to ask our students to use their smartphones, if they have them, if we cannot get into 1 of 3 computer labs which have outdated computers and don't have enough computers for the size of our current classes! I will share these with other teachers in department.
