The addition of a new carpet and wobble stools would be a huge asset to my classroom. We currently only have 1 carpet in the classroom and we use this spot for our main learning. The rest of the classroom has cold hard tile that is very uninviting to my learners. Another carpet in my room would allow my students flexibility in their seating. Students would be able to read independently and in partnerships on the new carpet. We can meet as a whole class and do lessons near our library with more comfortable seating. Students will also be able to do math groups, math games and other independent and group work in different places throughout the classroom. Spreading my class out throughout the classroom and allowing more seating will also reduce behaviors by allowing kids more space. When students are comfortable within their learning environment this can have an effect on their stamina to sustain an activity.
As we all know kids have a lot of energy and they are asked to stay in a classroom for several hours per day. Most of their time in the classroom is spent on a cold hard chair. In addition to adding the carpet these wobble seats would allow my active students the opportunity to move while they are learning. Students will be able to have more of a choice for how they would like to learn. The extra movement will significantly reduce my behaviors by providing the movement while learning. Wouldn't our students learn better if they had a place where they could feel more at home?
