I work in a low-income, minority-dominated school system. Learning gaps exist everywhere you look. My students are brilliant but have never been given the proper stage on which to shine. According to one article in the Huffington Post (STEM Education And Jobs: Declining Numbers Of Blacks Seen In Math, Science), in 2009 African Americans received only 7% of STEM bachelor's degrees. My vision is to see my students have the same opportunities that I had in the sciences. Their potential is brimming; they need only the opportunities to unleash that potential.
