Middle school can be such an interesting, amazing and tumultuous time in the life of a child. Our school is filled with students who love to learn, and there are some that need more motivation. We have 68% of students who receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students cannot afford school supplies, but come ready to learn in a safe environment. Our community has a high population of Hispanic and Brazilian immigrants, which adds to the amazing diversity at our school. For the past three years, we have implemented Writing Workshop and now are hoping to incorporate Reading Workshop where students will get to choose the books they read. My students are wonderful, eager, intelligent, and dedicated, but they often lack a love for reading. I hope that through Reading Workshop, I can help students find that love and become lifelong readers.
