Aloha, I am teaching Kinesiology (Physical Education) at Kealakehe Elementary School, Hawaii. Our school is on Hawaii Island, with over 71% of our Ohana receiving some type of financial assistance. We have a large migrant population and low income families. There are 1021+ students, grades K-5, one 30 minute class per week, which is a far cry from what it should be, daily Physical Education. Due to the time and energy spent setting up a more appropriate schedule, and the lack of funding, there is very little usable equipment and what equipment is available is not enough for each child in one class. Real estate is a premium...the little outdoor space available, is shared (classes and recess), leaving a small "grassy" area and no flat or cemented space. There is no dedicated indoor space either. Technology for this program is non-existent. Building this program is not only my challenge, but my goal!
