My students want to master math. They recognize its importance, but have struggled to understand more complex concepts. Give them the right tools, time, and encouragement and their comprehension blossoms. They are fighters. Their small, financially challenged town is making impossible decisions about funding. Last year there was talk of closing their school. They came out in large numbers to share how important their school community was to them. They won't let the difficulties of life keep them from achieving. They are kind and close knit. They willingly take risks to learn and gain skills. I have never taught a group of students with a greater desire to do well.
