The school has undergone huge transformational changes not only in terms of leadership, academic performance, and school culture, but almost equally as important, a physical transformation into a brand new campus. Our student population is about 80% Latino and 20% African American. While the school itself has undergone a huge positive transformation the students still live in Watts. There are five low income housing projects that could potentially attend our school. Each project is associated with a specific gang and the violence that is associated with it. On top of dealing with gang violence on a daily basis our student athletes are also from families with low incomes and some are even dealing with homelessness. Sports are a place where student athletes can come and get away from all of that even if it is for the two hour practice or five hour game day.
