Students at Verrado Middle School crave fine arts. The elementary schools in our district do not have Art teachers, so most students get Art for the first time in 6th grade. By the time they are in 8th grade, they will have been exposed to nine years worth of content in just three short semesters (each year, students can have Art for a semester). Painting is often a difficult thing to do in a traditional way because of the prohibitive cost of canvas, and the consumption of paint. Because almost no students have had an Art class before the get to Verrado Middle, much of what we do is building skills for the first time, learning brand-new techniques, and trying to create lasting, meaningful Art pieces that students and parents alike can be proud of having in their homes.
