Redesigning spaces to maximize learning is primarily a shift in culture and mindset. When a teacher such as myself changes his learning space, it means a commitment to student-centered learning including a shift in locus of control. My goal is to shift my classroom environment from a factory model scheme to a more modern education ecosystem. In my constant attempts to nurture student choice and voice, I want to create a learning space that echoes the energy, pace, and intensity of the world around us. I want my students to feel inspired about learning mathematics and US History. I want my students to have a classroom environment that fosters collaboration and communication. For my students and I to make this ever evolving learning space to work will be exciting, exacting, and on-going. This project will allow me to better enhance our collaboration and communication, while hopefully instilling a creative vibe in the classroom where students will want to tackle critical skills needed to be successful citizens in the 21st century.
