These supplies are necessary materials for the students to either perform on, or maintain their instruments. The cornet mouthpieces and reeds are key parts of the instruments, unfortunately they only use that particular mouthpiece for about a year as they develop their muscles before moving to a larger mouthpiece (think of it like training wheels). The reeds are fragile and get worn down after a few weeks of use and must be constantly replaced. Some of our parents struggle with the expense, but the instrument won't work without these things. The swabs and the cork grease help to maintain the instruments in good condition so that the students can continue to be successful in class with functioning instrument.
