Our elementary school is a small school nestled in a quiet, middle income neighborhood. Surrounding the neighborhood are many apartment complexes, a trailer park and the horse tracks. These are mostly low socioeconomic, immigrant, English Language Learner population families. The students I see are the most struggling readers at my school from these homes. Many are 1 to 2 years behind their grade level and don't speak English.
