Every day, I have the opportunity to watch our students explore these books, discover new words, ask questions, make connections, and become more confident readers. It is truly something special to witness.\r\n\r\nWhen we first received these books, I knew they would be valuable resources for our classroom, but I don't think I fully realized just how much of an impact they would have. These books have quickly become more than just something on a shelf. They have become tools for learning, sources of excitement, and invitations for our students to imagine, wonder, and explore.\r\n\r\nOur chapter books are allowing students to experience stories in ways that encourage them to slow down, think deeply, and stay with a story from beginning to end. Some students are discovering favorite characters and genres, while others are challenging themselves to read books that may have once seemed too difficult. I love seeing students recommend books to one another, talk about what they are reading, and eagerly choose their next book.\r\n\r\nThe dictionaries have been just as meaningful. They give our students the opportunity to become curious about language and take ownership of their learning. When a student comes across an unfamiliar word, instead of simply moving on, they can stop, look it up, and discover its meaning. That small moment can lead to a whole new understanding. It teaches students that they have the tools to figure things out for themselves.\r\n\r\nPerhaps one of the most rewarding parts has been seeing students' confidence grow. A book that once looked intimidating can suddenly become a book they are proud to finish. A new word that once seemed confusing becomes part of their vocabulary. A student who once hesitated to read aloud begins raising their hand. These moments may seem small, but they are incredibly important.\r\n\r\nYour donation has helped create opportunities for these moments to happen. You have given our students access to books that they can hold, explore, share, and return to again and again. You have helped make our classroom a place where reading is not simply an assignment but an experience.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and for investing in their education. For example, after reading nonfiction books about insects, nature, or plants, students can use bug nets and magnifying tools to explore the outdoors and observe living things firsthand. Sketch pads and pencils encourage students to draw, design, respond to stories, and express their understanding creatively. Baking pans and planting materials create opportunities for students to follow directions, observe growth, and make real-world connections to books about cooking, science, and life cycles.\r\n\r\nReading in our library looks active, engaging, and student-centered. Students are not only reading stories but interacting with them through exploration, creativity, and discovery. Many students who struggle with traditional reading activities become more excited and confident when they can touch, create, observe, and explore alongside a book. When I receive an unexpected new student, I am able to immediately print and copy materials so they can participate in class activities right away instead of simply observing. I can also print resources needed for meetings or send home materials that help families support their child's learning and close academic gaps.\r\n\r\nThe printer has also become an effective incentive for the class. When students have a particularly good day, I can print coloring pages or extension activities for early finishers, which keeps them engaged and motivated.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, having a printer in the classroom saves valuable instructional time. Previously, I had to send print jobs to the office and wait for a student to retrieve them, which often delayed lessons. I had only been given $50 from my school to spend on supplies, and the classroom I was walking into just didn't have what I needed. I was still in college, teaching through my final year, and between college tuition and first-year teacher expenses, I didn't have enough money to build the classroom my students deserved.\r\n\r\nThen I learned about DonorsChoose project being funded, and everything changed. All of a sudden, I was going to be able to give my students what they needed! My students walked into a fully supplied and decorated classroom, and oh my did they rock the year!\r\nWe saw incredible growth—128% growth in math! We went from 5 non-readers to every student being able to read.
