My students live in a suburban, middle-class area in the western United States. They are intelligent and hard-working, but lack the resources and support that many of the local high schools have because they come from a farming community. Many of my students, especially the boys, see high school as a hoop to jump through in order to move on to their 9-5 manual labor jobs after they graduate. These kids are amazing. I've taught for 10 years at three different schools and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but here. They are respectful and amiable. They want positive experiences in school and just need resources that will help them see their potential.
