My self-contained classroom is comprised of 12 students who range in age from 8 to 12, all of whom have a diagnosis of Mild Intellectual Disability. Some students have other disabilities such as autism, emotional behavioral disability, and cerebral palsy. They receive support from speech therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists. These kiddos do so much hard work in mastering basics, yet everyday is a challenge on many levels. My students need help in the activities of daily living in addition to academics. Our school receives Title1 funding because it is located in a low income area. There are many English language learners at our school. Our kiddos need a lot of support and they get it from a staff of caring, compassionate, and selfless teachers.
