My school is an inner city software engineering school. The majority of the population receives free or discounted lunch and commutes in from the different boroughs of New York. Our school mission is to prepare our students for college while providing them with a space to feel valued and be heard. Our hallways are lined with photos of students, their projects and class trips to encourage a positive community and school climate. The music room has created an energy of its own and is making a reputation as "Sound Lab Studios". By creating the parallel of a real world studio in the class room, students are given an authentic experience that encourages them to conduct themselves with professionalism, and respect for their craft of Music Production or Instrumental Performance. The content covered in my music class includes reading music, performing on various instruments and beat programming in Ableton/GarageBand.
