When I was a college student in the late 80's, I wrote a proposal for an individual major which integrated classes in three disciplines: education, child development and community. Never did I dream that the concept of "community" would grow exponentially and globally though the internet. I can now share the dreams and needs of 25 kindergartners who, each day, are working with sounds and words to become readers and writers. The missing ingredient is classroom emergent readers. My students need books in their hands, books they can reread and practice. Thank you, community, for supporting these young people who are in their first weeks and months of a lifetime journey of learning.
