The building itself is old, built in the 1960s, and "well-loved." We do not have air-conditioning and the windows are original. The average temperature inside the room is in the 80s even on a mild Pacific Northwest day. On a hot day the room can reach over 95 degrees. We also run a summer program for students that have not had any preschool experience. This time can be especially challenging in the heat. My students need and deserve an environment where they can focus and be comfortable. A portable air-conditioner would fit the current window configuration and be removed nightly for security. I am an engaging, active teacher who keeps students moving. It is hard to keep students engaged as they wilt from the heat and inability to be comfortable. This would allow us all to reach our full potential.
