Our school is filled with diverse populations of students including Hispanic, Caucasian, Somali, Burmese, and more. Our school is labeled a Title One school where all students receive free breakfast and lunch each day. Many of our students come from families with low income and live below the poverty line. The students in my classroom are all special education students and have a range of eligibilities including learning disabled, developmentally delayed, vision impairment, hearing impairment, emotionally disabled and orthopedic impairment. On top of their disability they may also have a language impairment and/or be a second language learner. My classroom is labeled as a Cross Categorical Resource Room which means that students spend only a portion of their day in my room and spend the rest in general education. While they may be higher functioning in the spectrum of special education, they are still often several grade levels below where they should be.
