Our district just purchased brand new classroom sets of both literary and informational text to use in class. However, all of these materials have been destroyed by the recent flood in the East Baton Rouge Parish. Even though the flood has occurred, learning still must take place. All students are required to take their LEAP test at the end of the year measuring their ability in each subject area. However, it will be challenging for the students to perform to the best of their ability due to no resources to teach the skill. My student's daily warm-ups and assessments will be created using Scholastic Story Works and Scholastic News as it gives multiple in class and out of class activities for both teacher and students. Oral reading from both the teacher and student will be implemented due to students having a mobile lightweight readable. A joy that I have is exposing my students to literature through oral reading. Having these Scholastic Issues will definitely provide for all students. There are multiple resources and activities that come along with Scholastic Story Works and Scholastic News such as homework, projects, writing activities, debates, etc. This will enable me to produce lessons that have the standards already embedded into the literature making it easier to introduce and review a skill. Also, Scholastic News will allow my students to stay abreast on what is going on in the world around them by introducing current events in a kid-friendly manner. By funding this project, you are helping 45 plus individuals meet all standards that must be taught in reading, writing, and social studies and become intrinsically motivated about literature and informational text one day at a time.
